performer spotlight: leah platt
this week’s performer spotlight shines on leah platt, who you may have seen on the road in fiddler on the roof, most recently in funny girl where she covered fanny brice (i was lucky enough to catch her as fanny at the kennedy center—where she truly brought the house down), or even sailing the seas as elsa in frozen on the disney fantasy. from checking in with her scene partners backstage to staying loyal to her cerave spf, leah shows us how consistency, kindness, and a little trail mix can keep both your skin and your spirit show-ready.
life backstage 🎭
what’s your favorite backstage ritual before a performance?
i like to go around and check in with people before a show starts! usually, saying hi to stage management, chatting with friends, and checking in with scene partners to see how they’re doing that day. it’s a nice way to start the work day before getting into the run of show. and it's important to see people before acting with them onstage.
do you have a go-to snack, drink, or pick-me-up during rehearsals or tech?
i always have rehearsal snacks, cause i am not my best self when i’m hungry. i usually have some packs of trader joe’s rainbow’s end trail mix with me, a cucumber, clementines, crackers, and tea for long days.
skincare musts 🫧
what does your daily skincare routine look like right now (morning or evening)?
in the mornings, i usually lightly cleanse my face, follow a simple gua sha routine to get some blood flow, apply a light toner, and put on sunscreen. at night, i’ll cleanse again, apply a retinol, vitamin c*, and something extra moisturizing around my eyes.
*we had a little chat about incorporating the vitamin c to her AM routine <3
do you have one holy-grail product you can’t live without?
my cerave moisturizer with spf! i went through years of testing sunscreens to find one that wasn’t too greasy and didn’t make my eyes water by the end of the day. i love this one so much and will probably be loyal for life. also shoutout to my tower 28 sos rescue spray.
how do you take care of your skin during heavy stage makeup weeks?
staying consistent with my skincare routine is so helpful, even when i’m tired and don’t feel like doing all of it or when i'm traveling for a show. if i keep up good habits, i'm more likely to follow through on longer, strenuous days.
rituals + reset ☕
any self-care rituals outside of skincare that help you reset?
every morning after doing skincare and brushing my teeth, i do my ny times games while drinking coffee. it's a nice way to wake up my brain first thing in the morning, and something fun to achieve before starting the rest of my day.
performer favorites 🎶
favorite broadway show of all time
in the heights.... or spring awakening. 2008 was a great year.
what’s the best advice you’ve received as a performer?
you can only be yourself.
if your skin had a theme song, what would it be?
many the miles – sara bareilles
