audition season skin prep
here’s the thing—audition season can be just as demanding on your skin as it is on your schedule. between long days, heavy makeup, recycled studio air, and not nearly enough hydration, your skin is working just as hard as you are.
but just like you wouldn’t skip a vocal warm-up or a little stretch before rehearsal, your skin needs a little prep before it performs, too. here’s how to keep your complexion balanced, hydrated, and glowing through every callback, dance call, and long day ahead.
1. hydration is everything
your skin can’t look (or feel) its best if it’s dehydrated—inside or out.
start with the basics: drink your water.
apply a hydrating toner or hyaluronic acid before your moisturizer to boost water levels in the skin and help your moisturizer work more effectively. This is the key to that plump, dewy finish we all want.
refresh throughout the day: keep a hydrating mist along with hypochlorous acid spray in your bag for quick hydration + calming benefits. the hypochlorous acid soothes irritation, balances the skin, and revives your complexion whether you’re in rehearsal, backstage, or running between appointments.
2. gentle, consistent cleansing
sweat, makeup, and nasty city air can lead to congestion fast.
double cleanse every night: start with a cleansing balm, micellar water, or oil based cleanser, then follow with a gentle, non-stripping cleanser.
skip harsh scrubs—your skin barrier deserves a little kindness.
3. exfoliate wisely
if your makeup isn’t sitting quite right or your skin feels dull, it might be time for a refresh.
reach for chemical exfoliants (like lactic or mandelic acid) 1–2x per week to smooth texture and boost radiance without irritation.
before a busy week of auditions, new headshots or events, a dermaplaning facial is a game-changer—it creates a soft, even canvas for makeup and that lit-from-within glow.
4. prioritize rest + recovery
long days, little sleep, and constant movement can take a toll on your skin.
puffy eyes and dullness? try a cooling eye gel in the morning and a barrier-supportive night cream before bed.
a few extra minutes of rest (and deep breathing) go a long way—for your skin and your sanity.
5. SPF, always
even when you’re running from one place to the next, SPF is non-negotiable. choose a lightweight, invisible formula that layers easily under makeup (or a tinted spf in lieu of foundation) and protects your skin every step of the way.
bonus: book a pre-season facial
if you’re local to NYC, book a signature facial or dermaplaning facial with me at open jar studios or for an in-home session. each treatment focuses on deep cleansing, barrier support, and hydration—everything your skin needs to look refreshed, balanced, and confident.
